New Mercies
Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us that God’s mercies are new every morning. That is to say, every moment. At times when life gets busy and I am easily distracted from spending time with the Lord or giving Him my full attention when I do make the time, I feel as though I have disappointed Him yet again. I compare His faithfulness to mine and fall woefully short.
When I do get “back on track” I somehow feel that I must “prove” myself to Him by following through faithfully for an undetermined period of time before I win His acceptance and approval again. But then, I am reminded that that is how I am – not how He is. Again, I fall short of realizing how very much He loves me just as I am and that I have nothing to prove or accomplish to win His favor. He simply loves me, unconditionally. No matter how long I have been away from His presence, He is there to meet me and it is a new day, a new moment and all that has been before is gone. Today is a new day. This is a new morning and His mercies are new. If I spent time with Jesus yesterday, today is still a new day, a day to begin again; yesterday does not carry over. If I did not spend time with Jesus yesterday, today is still a new day, a day to begin again; yesterday does not carry over. Make it simple. Just be in His presence this morning. No planned routine to guide you, no devotionals to inspire you. Know that He is with you every moment. Now is your opportunity to be with Him at the beginning of this new day.
